About

Me starting a fire and cooking edimame at Apache LakeGrowing up in Southern California, I was a city kid. There were periods in my life though, when I was exposed to the great outdoors. The Mojave Desert, Mt. Baldy, Arrowhead, Salton Sea, The Pacific Ocean - TONS to do. I moved to Illinois in 1993 and tolerated the winters for quite a long time - until 2006 to be specific. I decided that was my last winter in the midwest. My wife Rachael and I decided to become snowbirds. Not in the typical sense - we are still far from retiring! We, well ’she’ more-so these days, works in an industry that can allow us to work in metropolitan areas; Photography.

Spending the last winter (2007-2008) in the tremendous weather and beautiful wilderness of the southwest has completely ruined me! Living in Illinois is a constant struggle and an endless search for wilderness. Unspoiled places to paddle my kayak, hike, camp, mountain bike (emphasis on the ‘mountain’) are non-existent within 50-100 miles of Chicago.

So, as I write my blog, the blog I swore I would never write, I am hoping to fill that empty piece between Getting Out N Doing It in this land of sky-scrapers and corn fields and being where you truly can enjoy unspoiled nature and not see anyone for as long you like. There are many places that fit the bill just in our country alone, not to mention the rest of the world.

Put in that perspective, sadly, there is so much I will never see.
